It’s the First Round of the Scottish Cup this weekend, with Pollok travelling east to take on East Of Scotland Premier Division side Penicuik Athletic.
Penicuik beat Rutherglen Glencairn 4-2 at home in the last round, their goalscorers being, Wardlaw, Forbes, Melvin and Buckle. Pollok would beat Benburb on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Newlandsfield.
Both clubs were involved in the South of Scotland Cup last weekend, Pollok broke their goalscoring record with a 13-0 win over Saltcoats, while Penicuik beat Dalkeith Thistle 3-1.
Currently, Penicuik sit 9th in the EoSFL Premier Division with a record of four wins and five losses.
Penicuik were formed in 1888, they play at Montgomery Park (formerly Penicuik Park). Their biggest achievement was reaching the Scottish Junior Cup Final in 1970. They would draw 1-1 with Blantyre Vics at Hampden Park and then lose the replay, 1-0. Their last trophy was the East of Scotland Football League Conference A title in 2019, where they would finish runner up in the Championship play offs to Bonnyrigg Rose. They are currently managed by Lewis Coult.
Former notable players include, Kevin Twaddle, Lee Bullen and former Hearts player and Australian manager, Eddie Thompson.
The last meetings between the clubs took place in the Scottish Junior Cup when, after a 1-1 draw at Newlandsfield, Penicuik would win 2-1 in the replay on February 1st, 2014.
