Scottish Junior FA Membership: statement

Following on from the unacceptable scenes at the match versus Irvine Victoria on the 25th September and the Club’s expulsion from the Scottish Junior Cup and associated fine, Pollok FC have considered what, if any, action the Club should take.

The Club have accepted the decision of the SJFA Management Committee but fundamentally disagree with the resulting sanction. It is clear that members of the Management Committee have had to expend a considerable amount of time reviewing the evidence and arriving at their decision and the Club regret that they have had to do so and are grateful for their consideration.

Nonetheless, to be leading a match with two minutes to play, to have the match abandoned and to then be expelled from the competition, with the financial and reputational damage associated with such a decision, given in equal measure to both clubs, when the catalyst for what happened was not of the making of anyone related to Pollok FC is not something we can agree with.

We have been proud members of what has been a remarkable institution for over 100 years. Our membership of the SJFA for the current season was paid for and confirmed many months ago. We will consider whether to apply for membership in the future at the appropriate time. Suffice to say, the mere fact that we have to consider our future membership is regrettable.

A guide to season 2018-19

The dust has only just settled on last season but we’re already looking ahead with the players due to report back to pre-season training this Saturday. We’ve got some friendly fixtures lined up later in July but before that we just wanted to go through a bit of housekeeping with several changes happening in the structure of our league and cup competitions in the coming season.

Expanded premier division

You’ll no doubt be aware after this was passed at last years West Region AGM, but this season the Premier Division has gone from 12 teams to 16. We’ve lost Arthurlie and Girvan but First Division champions Petershill move up along with Largs Thistle, Renfrew, Cambuslang Rangers, Troon and Irvine Meadow XI. The league is now called the Premiership with the Championship, League 1 and League 2 sitting below that.

This season the league kicks off on August 4th?with a trip to newly promoted Renfrew. We then welcome Largs to Newlandsfield before a trip to the seaside to play Troon. Check out our fixtures page for the first half of the season’s fixtures..

NEW SECTIONAL CUP FORMAT

The Sectional Cup has been revamped for season 2018/19 bringing together the Central and Ayrshire sections into one competition. All West region teams have been split into groups of 8 teams, bar one which has 7 teams. The teams within that group of 8 were then drawn into two mini groups of 4. (Still with us?) This group of 4 is our section for the next two seasons. In the third season, the same original group of 8 will be redrawn into two fresh groups of 4.

Our main sectional group contains; Clydebank, Maryhill, Rossvale, Shettleston, Vale of Clyde, Vale of Leven and Yoker.

For season 2018/19 and 2019/20 we have been drawn in a group containing;

Maryhill

Rossvale

Shettleston

These sectional group fixtures will take place over one week at the beginning of the season on the 28th July, 30th July and 1st August (Sat, Mon, Wed). We play Maryhill at home on Saturday 28th, Shettleston away on Monday 30th and are at home to Rossvale on Wednesday the 1st of August.

The winner of our section and the winner from the other mini section in our group will then meet in the second round of the competition.

Other competition NEWS…

The Scottish Junior Cup will kick off on September 15th, with the second round scheduled 2 weeks later on September 29th.

The West of Scotland Cup will continue and Pollok have been drawn to play away at Ardrossan Winton Rovers. This match is currently scheduled for November 10th.

The Central League Cup will not go ahead this season.

The end-of-season Evening Times Cup will now be contested the following season.

Fixture news: Pollok to end January at home

After last weeks flurry of new fixtures for January, the club can confirm that we will finish up the first month of 2018 with a home match against Hurlford United in the league. The Hurlford fixture follows a home match against Arthurlie on January 6th before we hit the road to play Clydebank on the 13th and then Rossvale in the Scottish Junior Cup on the 20th.

We look forward to seeing you at Newlandsfield next year!

Lok to make trip to Royal Albert in the Scottish

Pollok have been drawn away to Royal Albert in the second round of the Scottish Junior Cup.

The tie will take place at Tileworks Park on Saturday October 28th, k.o. 2.30pm

The two teams have recent history in the competition as they were paired together in the third round of the draw in 2015. Pollok ended up 4-1 winners that day as they took one step closer to what would end up to be a run to the final.

This will be the first of two meetings as the clubs will face each other again in the West of Scotland Cup. This tie is scheduled for November the 11th.

Scottish Junior Cup First Round Draw

UPDATE: POLLOK RECEIVE A BYE

The draw for the first round of the Scottish Junior Cup will take place this evening at Hampden Park.

A number of sides will receive first round byes to whittle down the entry list to 128 teams with the junior sides competing in the Senior Scottish Cup also joining at the second round.

Last season Pollok received a bye in the first round and went on to draw Glentanar of Aberdeen in round two before being defeated after a hard fought replay against eventual finalists, Auchinleck.

Three time winners

Pollok’s last success in the trophy came in 1997 but they have reached the final as recently as 2016, where they were unlucky to lose out on penalties to Beith Juniors.
