It’s back to Newlandsfield on Saturday as Pollok welcome Glenafton in the West Of Scotland Football League Premier Division.
Both sides are looking to bounce back after defeat in midweek, having won their opening games of the season. After two games we sit 9th and 10th in the early league standings.
Like Pollok, Glenafton chose not to play last season, with last Saturday’s game against Irvine Meadow being their first senior match. The Glens ran out 3-1 winners away from home with goals from Ross Fisher, Sean McIlroy and Leon Murphy. A good start for the new management team of manager, Mick McCann and assistant, Brian McGarrity, both former Glenafton players and members of The Glens treble winning squad of 2016/17.
The victory over Irvine was followed by a 2-1 home defeat against Darvel when Sam McKee netted the Glenafton goal.
Nine players made their Glenafton competitive debuts against Irvine. With a few having SPFL experience including Craig Pettigrew, Leon Murphy, Mark Gilmour and Ross Fisher, the club also have former Pollok player Scott Johnson in their ranks.
Glenafton were formed in 1930 and originally had black and white as their colours before changing to the more familiar red and white in 1960. The club won the Scottish Junior Cup twice, 1993 and 2017.
The game kicks off at 2pm on Saturday.
