Recap

It may sound weird with a World Cup ongoing but it’s the Third Round of the Scottish Cup and Pollok are on TV again. Portugal may be taking on Uruguay but everyone knows the real cracker will be at Somerset Park, where we visit to face Championship leaders Ayr United.

Not only is it a massive game in the clubs history, it is also the first game in charge for new manager Stewart Maxwell, who joined the club from Kirkintilloch Rob Roy. A warm welcome to Pollok for Stewart, and also thanks to the outgoing Murdie MacKinnon.
Ayr have been going great in the Championship, currently leading the way with a record of 8 wins, 5 draws and 3 losses from their 16 games played. They are a point ahead of both Greenock Morton and Dundee and two points ahead of our near neighbours Queens Park.In their last five matches they have beaten Partic Thistle (4-2), Arbroath (2-0), drawn 1-1 with Morton, beaten Hamilton 3-2 and last weekend left Inverness with a 2-2 draw. Summer signing Dipo Akinyemi has proved to be one of the finds of the season having scored 14 goals so far.
Ayr were founded in 1910 and have won the Scottish second tier of six times, they have been runners up of the League Cup on one occasion, they have spent a total of 34 seasons in the top tier of Scottish football, the last time being in 1978, although Lee Bullen’s men will be aiming for a return at the end of this season. Former Scotland manager, Ally McLeod is possibly the most famous name to be associated with the club, McLeod was manager on three occasions and the club won two titles under his leadership.
