Stewart Maxwell agrees contract extension

Pollok FC are delighted to announce that our manager Stewart Maxwell has signed a new twelve-month rolling contract with the club which will keep him at Newlandsfield into next season!

Stewart joined the club in November 2022 following the departure of Murdo MacKinnon, and was thrust straight into the spotlight in his first game as we travelled to Somerset Park to face Championship side Ayr United in our biggest ever match, live on BBC Scotland. A more than credible 1-0 defeat to the second-tier leaders saw us drop out of the Scottish Cup at the third round stage with our heads held high.

He oversaw a strong finish to that season in which we finished fifth, before another strong Scottish Cup run the following season which saw wins against Benburb, Penicuik Athletic and Gala Fairydean Rovers send us to the third round again, before a narrow 1-0 defeat in Brora ended our interest in the competition. Significant financial issues came to light midway through this season, but Maxwell was still able to steer us to our first cup final in six years in the West of Scotland Cup following a difficult run in which we knocked out Clydebank, Gartcairn, Hurlford United and Auchinleck Talbot. The final was unfortunately a step too far as, ravaged by injuries and suspensions, we lost 2-0 to Darvel.

Season 24-25 and the current campaign has seen the manager working with a significantly reduced budget, but despite that he has built an exciting team which blends youth and experience, and is currently on a six-game winning run in the league, with promotion to the Lowland League West very much in our sights.

I am delighted to extend my contract with Pollok. After three turbulent years, I feel like the journey has only truly begun this season. I still firmly believe that we are the biggest club at this level, and I hope we can begin to achieve on the park, as things are improving off it. There is far more cohesion now than when I first started, with management, players and committee all working together, and we can hopefully build a team on the park that this club and its fantastic support deserve.

I am delighted that Stewart will remain at Newlandsfield after agreeing a contract extension. The job that Maxi accepted back in November 2022 has changed markedly since then, but despite the many challenges the club has faced, Stewart has managed to build a fantastic team that has been performing to an incredibly high standard in recent months. I look forward to continuing to work with him as we strive to push Pollok towards a successful future.
