We are very sad to announce the passing of former committee member and fan of seventy years, Duncan McDiarmid at the age of 89. He passed away last week surrounded by his family at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after a short illness.

Duncan served on committee for twelve years, and if you never met him, then you had probably listened to him many times, as he was Newlandsfield’s tannoy announcer for a number of years as well. Since stepping down, Duncan continued to work with the programme team and support the club both home and away. You would usually find him watching from his old perch up in the hospitality suite near his beloved microphone!

Duncan’s great love of Pollok was something he passed down to his children as well, with son Fergus serving as club president from 2006-2008 and 2012-2014. His other son Graeme, and his grandchildren are also Pollok regulars. Fergus has also followed in his father’s footsteps on several occasionally deputising for John Daly as tannoy announcer.

A friend to many at the club, and a true Pollok man, Duncan will be sorely missed and our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends at this difficult time.

Duncan’s funeral will take place at noon on Monday 22nd July at the Hurlet Crematorium, followed by a thanksgiving service at Shawlands Trinity Church at 1 o’clock. All are welcome to attend.
