Pollok team up with Home-Start Glasgow South

Pollok are delighted to announce Home-Start Glasgow South as our official charity partners. Based at Pollokshaws Burgh Hall, where we were founded in 1908, the organisation provides vital practical and emotional support to families across the south of Glasgow through a network of dedicated volunteers. They support around 300 families and 700 children a year in areas such as Castlemilk, Pollok, The Gorbals, Govan and Govanhill.

Our relationship with Home-Start began in December when we held a Christmas present drive on their behalf at our game against Cumnock Juniors, and the response from the Pollok faithful was fantastic. Since then, manager Stewart Maxwell and coach Ryan Dakhil have attended the group’s Warm Place event to meet families and volunteers. Most recently, Newlandsfield played host to a number of children, families, staff and volunteers last week as we installed a trackside board to rubber stamp our new partnership.

Evan Maley, Andy Gallacher, Ben Fry & Stephen Docherty welcomed families from Home-Start to Newlandsfield last week.

This link-up will see Pollok working closely with an incredible organisation in the heart of our local community as demand for their services increases due to the current cost of living crisis. We look forward to welcoming families and volunteers regularly to our games with complimentary tickets, while also supporting fundraising and volunteering recruitment drives. Going into the new season we will also be supporting their Warm Space sessions with players and coaches attending to run football sessions.

Pollok Football Club has always been at the heart of our local community, and as the Southside’s Local Club for so long, we felt it was important to give back. We came across Home-Start Glasgow South, and being based at Pollokshaws Burgh Hall, which is where we were first founded in 1908, it seemed like a perfect match. From speaking to Gillian & Saqib over the last few months, it felt like a partnership that could work really well, and we look forward to helping them to raise their profile going forward so they can continue to help as many families as possible.

Paul Regan, Pollok FC President

We are really excited about the partnership and the support that we are receiving from the club and their supporters. We think this is a great opportunity to raise awareness about what we do in the community through such an established local club, that has a great following.

Gillian Campbell, Communications Officer, Home-Start Glasgow South

Everyone at the club is excited to engage with Home-Start further as we look ahead to the new season, and we are grateful to all our fans who have supported them already in recent months. Look out for them at our final home game against Clydebank on Saturday where some of their young people will be leading the team out before kick off. Home-Start staff will also be in attendance to talk to supporters about the work that they do, so be sure to say hello!

Home-Start Glasgow South are recruiting new volunteers to support an ever-growing number of families that need their support. If you think you can make a difference, then find out more here. You can also donate here.
