Pollok FC can confirm that long-serving left back Mark Sideserf has left the club following the expiration of his current contract.
Sidey arrived at Newlandsfield from Irvine Meadow in 2015 and went on to establish himself as a key first-team player over the course of his eight seasons at the club. He made his debut in a drab 0-0 draw with rivals Arthurlie in the Sectional League Cup, before scoring his first goal in a 4-0 victory away to St Anthony’s a week later in the same competition. He was also a crucial member of the team that made it to the 2016 Scottish Junior Cup Final, coolly slotting home his penalty in the nerve-shredding shootout against Hurlford in the semi-final. More recently, he also played every game in last season’s run to the Scottish Cup Third Round.
His contribution to the squad was recognised as his teammates selected him as their player of the year for the 2017-18 season. Tough in the tackle, strong in the air, but with a left foot that could unlock the meanest of defences, Sidey made 245 appearances for the club, chipping in with sixteen goals, and five red cards!
Everyone at Pollok would like to pass on our sincere best wishes for the future to Mark and his family. We are all grateful to him for his contribution to the club over the past eight years, and will remember his time here fondly.
