St Roch's 3-2 Pollok
James McGrory Park, Saturday 30th July 2016
A last minute strike from substitute Brian McQueen saw hosts St. Roch’s edge city rivals Pollok in this five-goal thriller at James McGrory Park.
The Candy took the lead in the 7th minute, Keiran Martin’s free-kick deflecting off the Pollok wall, and looping over visiting custodian Jordan Longmuir.
Liam Rowan hit the woodwork, before the same player had the chance to put his side back on level terms when he was given the responsibility from the penalty spot after Davie Winters was adjudged to have been felled. Unfortunately for the ex-Falkirk man, he sent his kick past the upright.
The homesters were awarded a penalty of their own in the 38th minute when Robert Maguire was bundled over in the box, John Sweeney stepped up to net against his old club.
‘Lok reduced their arrears in the 42nd minute, the alert Winters spotting that St. Roch’s goalkeeper John Paul Stark had drifted off his line, and sending a 35 yard volley over the head of the backpeddling number 1.
Parity was restored in the 54th minute, Tam Hanlon’s corner was headed goalward by Chris Walker, Winters on hand to flick the ball past Stark.
The scoring was completed with the last kick of the ball after the Pollok rearguard failed to clear the lines, the ball falling to McQueen who cracked home a low dive from 20 yards.
