Pollok 3-1 Troon

West Premier Super League - MATCHDAY 2

Newlandsfield Park, Saturday 3rd September 2016

Pollok’s first home League match of the 2016-17 season ended with a 3-1 victory over Ayrshire cracks Troon.

It was the visitors who came flying out of the blocks, a Ross Barbour cross to the back post being met with a looping header from Ross Robertson who sent the ball wide.

Jordan Muir picked out Ryan Nisbet in behind the ‘Lok rearguard, Jordan Longmuir making a comfortable save, ahead of a Muir free-kick being nodded wide by Barbour.

Pollok began to get a foothold when Liam Rowan’s flag-kick was cleared to Kieran McAleenan to fizz over.

Rowan had the next two chances for the home side, flicking a Gary McCann cross wide, and then also putting past the upright from an acute angle.

Del Hepburn was next up for ‘Lok, latching on to a ball over the top of the Seasiders’ rearguard, Ally Semple more than equal to his attempt on goal.

The deadlock was broken in the 39th minute, a nice Pollok passing move ending with Mark Sideserf’s cross seeking out fellow full back Tam Hanlon, his controlled volley into the bottom corner giving Semple no chance.

Davie Winters teed up Rowan for the last chance of the opening 45 minutes, the midfielder blasting over.

The homesters doubled their advantage with the first chance of note in the second period, a Rowan corner found Chris Walker criminally unmarked at the back post to nod home.

Troon reduced the arrears in the 64th minute, Barbour’s cross was met by a majestic leap from substitute Adam Forsyth to head past Longmuir.

The visitors had a chance to restore parity moments later through a Scott Chatam half-volley from the edge of the area which was an easy take for Longmuir.

McAleenan deliveries created Pollok’s next two attempts on goal, both reaching Allan MacKenzie, neither troubling Semple.

‘Lok killed the game off in the 82nd minute. With Troon pushing forward looking for the equaliser, Winters sprung their defence and rolled an inch perfect ball to the feet of Rowan who swept past Semple.

The last sighter from the visiting side came via a Nisbet long ranger that went wildly over.

Pollok were given the opportunity to make the scoreline even more emphatic in the 87th minute when Semple brought McCann down in the area. Rowan stepped up to take the spot-kick, but Semple redeemed himself, guessing correctly to push the ball past the upright.
