Signing News

The S.J.F.A. online registrations department opened for all 2013/14 business today, and Pollok have been quick to tie up a host of new signings. The first batch of these (with more to follow over the next 48 hours) are:

RICHIE BARR (Irvine Meadow XI)

Striker Richie, 31, netted a double last Saturday against Shotts Bon Accord to confirm his spot as top scorer in the 2012/13 Stagecoach Super Premier League with 15 goals. The prolific marksman has found the target regularly over the years, including the strike that saw Irvine Meadow XI become the first Junior side to defeat Scottish League opposition in the Senior Scottish Cup when he grabbed the winner against Arbroath. His previous clubs include Hibernian, Johnstone Burgh under-21s, Renfrew, Bellshill Athletic, Cumnock and Irvine Meadow XI.

IAIN DIACK (Kirkintilloch Rob Roy)

A familiar face to ‘Lok fans, 32 year-old forward Iain returns to Newlandsfield for a second spell in the black and white. He found the back of the net 35 times in 62 appearances during his previous stint at the club before departing for Kirkintilloch Rob Roy. Iain scored ten Super League goals for The Rabs last season. He has previously been with Celtic Boys Club, Albion Rovers, Arbroath, Greenock Morton, East Stirlingshire, Stenhousemuir, Berwick Rangers and Brechin City as well as Pollok and Rob Roy.

WILLIE EASTON (Kirkintilloch Rob Roy)

26 year-old left-sided attacker Willie arrives at Newlandsfield from Kirkintilloch Rob Roy, where he scored five league goals last season. He has plenty of experience at Senior level, appearing for the Dundee United first team after progressing through the Tannadice youth ranks before moving on to Stirling Albion and Ayr United. He helped The Honest Men to two promotions in three seasons before departing Somerset Park in summer 2011 to sign for Rob Roy.

ROBBIE HENDERSON (Kirkintilloch Rob Roy)

Centre-back Robbie, 30, returns to Newlandsfield for a second spell with ‘Lok having previously donned the black and white during 2007/08. A trainee with Leeds United, he returned to Scotland to sign for Kilmarnock before making first team appearances for Raith Rovers, Queen of the South, Greenock Morton and Stenhousemuir then Pollok. Since his departure Robbie has turned out for Berwick Rangers, Bo’ness United, Glenafton Athletic and Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.

ALAN LINDSAY (Kirkintilloch Rob Roy)

25 year-old Alan is a product of the Celtic youth system. The midfielder headed North for a spell with Ross County before signing for Stenhousemuir in 2007/08. His next stop was Elgin City before joining the Junior ranks with Petershill during 2008/09. Alan then moved to Kirkintilloch Rob Roy during the summer of 2011.

KIERAN McALEENAN (Kirkintilloch Rob Roy)

Midfielder Kieran, 25, began his career as a youth player with Dundee United. On leaving Tannadice in 2006 he joined the Junior ranks with Petershill, staying with the Springburn outfit for five years. He signed for Kirkintilloch Rob Roy in 2011 as has remained with them for the past two campaigns. Kieran found the net three times in the Super League last term, including a spectacular strike against Pollok at Adamslie Park back in December.

Pollok are also delighted to announce that reigning Player of the Year BRIAN McGINTY has agreed terms for the new campaign and will remain with the club.

Manager JOHN RICHARDSON told the Pollok website:

Anyone who knows about junior football will look at the names of the players we’ve signed and know about the quality that’s on offer. Docco and myself have been working away non-stop behind the scenes to get these guys down to Newlandsfield, and we’re really happy with the squad we’re building. We’ve got to hand it to the committee as well, and all of the members of the 1908 club who’ve made it possible.

I’d like to publicly thank all of the players who really dug in last year for everything they did; it was a hard year, and I was really pleased with the committment each of them showed. Many of them are now moving on to other junior or senior clubs, and they leave with mine and Docco’s gratitude and very best wishes.

As John said, these signings would not be possible without the support of the 1908 Club, which has augmented the playing budget substantially since it was launched in 2011. We need as many Pollok supporters as possible to support the 1908 club. For further information, please see HERE.

The arrival of new faces inevitably means there will be some departures too. Details of these will be published here once the signing club have officially confirmed the deal, beginning with the news that PAUL LOVERING has left Pollok to take up the position of Assistant Coach at Airdrieonians. We thank him for his service, and wish him well for the future.
