Glenafton Athletic 1-0 Pollok

West Premier Super League - MATCHDAY 1

Loch Park, Saturday 27th August 2016

Pollok’s 2016-17 League campaign kicked off with a disappointing start, returning from Glenafton Athletic’s Loch Park pointless after a 1-0 defeat.

‘Lok’s Jordan Longmuir was the first goalkeeper tested, Daniel Orsi’s drive deflecting off Paul Gallacher and into his gloves.

At the other end, Del Hepburn laid off to Allan MacKenzie, who curled one over, before Carlo Monti’s free-kick was sent past the upright.

The homesters took the lead in the 18th minute, David Gray swinging a free-kick into the ‘Lok area where Ally Park was on hand to glance a header into the bottom corner of the net.

Pollok’s response came via a Tam Hanlon free-kick which bounced into the arms of home custodian Brian McGarrity.

Park almost doubled his goal tally for the day, fizzing wide from 25 yards ahead of Orsi shooting off target from even further out.

The visitors last chance of the opening 45 minutes came when a corner kick was cleared to Findlay Frye who lashed high and wide, while a game of head tennis in the ‘Lok penalty area closed the half with Conor Lynass weakly nodding into Longmuir’s clutch.

Lynass also had the premier chance of the second period, getting in behind the Pollok rearguard to round Longmuir, the recovering Tam Hanlon making the block as he attempted to roll the ball home.

Both sides then traded blows, MacKenzie playing in Monti, his turn and shot was comfortably grasped by McGarrity, while at the other end Orsi’s corner was met by a similar header by Park that brought about his goal, the ball on this occasion drifting wide.

Orsi created his side’s next chance, showing neat footwork to tee up Cameron Marlow who shot over.

Pollok’s last efforts to restore parity both failed to trouble McGarrity, Colin Williamson’s blast over from the edge of the box coming ahead of Ross McCabe getting his head on the end of Gary McCann’s corner, but failing to divert it goalwards.

The final opportunity of the game came when Orsi’s cross was volleyed over the crossbar by Marlow at the back post.
