ARTHURLIE 1-6 POLLOK
West Super Premier League - MATCHDAY 15
Dunterlie Park, Barrhead - 28 January 2017
A sensational five goal salvo in the last fifteen minutes saw Pollok return from Arthurlie’s Dunterlie Park with their biggest victory at that ground since 1975, making the short journey back to Newlands with a 6-1 scoreline.
Despite the emphatic margin of victory it was the homesters who opened the scoring, a sclaffed kick-out from Pollok goalkeeper Jordan Longmuir being returned with interest, allowing Gary Carroll to round the custodian and give his side the lead.
Arthurlie were reduced to ten men in the 27th minute, Graham Girvan receiving the order of the march after a petulant kick on ‘Lok’s Michael Daly.
He was joined in the showers by Ryan McGregor in the 51st minute after he was given a straight red card for impeding Daly in the area. To add insult to injury for the ‘Lie, Tam Hanlon stepped up to restore parity with the resultant spot-kick.
It took until the 77th minute for the visitors to wear down the resistance of the nine men, Pollok’s trialist midfielder controlling Gary McCann’s cross on his chest before volleying into the bottom corner.
Liam Rowan doubled the advantage two minutes later with a well placed front post volley from Robbie Winters low cross.
Davie Winters made it 4-1 in the 83rd minute, blasting past Grant Hay from 12 yards after being teed up by Allan MacKenzie.
Brother Robbie made it a Winters double four minutes later, Rowan laying off to the veteran marksman who finished crisply under Hay.
The scoring was completed in the 90th minute, McCann rolling a short corner to Robbie Winters who picked out MacKenzie to rise unchallenged from six yards and send the away support back home with a memorable triumph.
