Pollok 1-0 Auchinleck Talbot

West Premier Super League

Matchday 13

Newlandsfield Park, SATURDAY 30th JANUARY 2016

Almost a month after the bells Auchinleck Talbot first-footed Pollok, leaving Glasgow empty-handed as the homesters triumphed by a single goal.

Pollok had the better of the opening exchanges, Carlo Monti played a ball through to Davie Winters, the striker squeezing the ball past ‘Bot goalkeeper Andy Leishman from a tight angle only to see the ball rebound off the upright.

The same combination linked up for the ‘Lok’s next attempt, Winters cutting back to Monti for a shot that was a comfortable hold for Leishman.

The only goal of the afternoon came in the 6th minute, Mark Sideserf’s slide rule pass was met by Kieran McAleenan on the bye-line to pull back to the edge of the six-yard box, where Monti was on hand to put a right-footer into the top corner.

Talbot responded through Dwayne Hyslop’s looping header, which failed to find the target.

A Monti corner created a game of pinball in the visitors’ area, Robbie Winters goalward header being blocked by his brother Davie, breaking to Chris Walker who could only poke the ball into Leishman’s arms.

Auchinleck pressed, and showed more purpose for the remainder of the first half, a Bryan Young diving header going wide, before the same player’s corner caused a stramash in the home box, the ball eventually being blazed over.

The closest Talbot came to restoring parity was in the 39th minute when Graham Wilson latched onto a ball over the top of the Pollok rearguard. He was denied by the onrushing Jordan Longmuir who took the sting out of his effort, before Sideserf completed the clearance.

Keir Milliken turned inside Tam Hanlon to fire over, while the last chance of the half came when Wilson’s low shot from the edge of the area was scrambled away by Longmuir.

The first opportunity of the second period fell to ‘Lok skipper Paul Gallacher as he headed wide from a Hanlon free-kick.

Milliken had Bot’s first sighter of the half, flashing a low drive wide from close to the touchline, which preceeded Wilson heading Mark Shankland’s corner over the crossbar.

Shankland himself shot over from 25 yards, while Pollok’s best chance of the half came via Allan MacKenzie’s through ball to Monti, the goalscorer denied by the legs of Leishman.

The final opportunities of note both fell to the visitors, initially Willie Boyd digging the ball out from under his feet before firing over. The last action came when Young’s free-kick in the dying embers was met by Martin McGoldrick’s free header, the centre-half failing to generate enough power to beat Longmuir.
