Pollok 0-1 Shettleston

McBookie Super League Premier Division

Newlandsfield PARK, SATURDAY 28TH NOVEMBER 2015

Shettleston visited a saturated Newlandsfield Park and returned to the East End of the city with all three points after a 1-0 victory.

The visitors had the better of the opening exchanges, Jordan Dalzell’s early dipper, and Scott Anson’s shot on the turn both going over the crossbar.

The homesters first chance came when a long John Sweeney throw-in allowed Chris Walker to send a looping header goalwards which was athletically tipped over by Bryn Halliwell.

Allan MacKenzie was lively up front for the ‘Lok, cutting in from the left to curl one wide of target. Mark McLennan set the striker up with a through ball which was clipped past the post, before a skillful pirouette inside the six-yard bax was followed by a shot into the side netting to complete a triumvirate of chances.

The closest either side came to opening the scoring came with the last chance of the half, the Town’s Chris McCormack sending a high ball into the Pollok area which Jordan Longmuir could only claw into the path of Miguel Blanco, the Spaniard being denied by a goal-line clearance from Walker.

The home side resumed after the interval with purpose, some nice skill by MacKenzie saw him cut the ball back to Tam Hanlon who side footed wide.

Mark Sideserf put MacKenzie through for the ‘Lok front man to sting Halliwell’s palms, before the big striker’s head flick from a Longmuir kick out sent substitute Robbie Winters bearing down on the 'keeper, Halliwell’s legs keeping the scoresheet blank.

The deadlock was eventually broken in the 72nd minute, McCormack’s free-kick from the right flank was watched by a static home rearguard as it bounced into the net.

Pollok almost restored parity immediately, Robbie Winters backheel teeing up Kieran McAleenan, the winger’s first timer failing to trouble Halliwell.

Brave defending was the order of the day, at one end Ryan Frances putting his body on the line to block from MacKenzie, while at the other Ricky McIntosh beat Longmuir only to find Hanlon in the right place to clear.

The final attempt of the afternoon came in stoppage time, McAleenan firing a free-kick from 20 yards into orbit.
