Troon 1-3 Pollok

West Premier Super League

Portland PARK, SATURDAY 19TH March 2016

Pollok came out victors of this battle of the top two sides in the table, defeating Troon 3-1 at the latter named’s Portland Park.

The homesters took an 11th minute lead, Dean Keenan despatching a free-kick around the wall and into the bottom left hand corner of Jordan Longmuir’s goal.

They almost doubled their lead moments later, Scott Chatham flicking the ball up to send a dipping volley just over the crossbar.

Kieran McAleenan had the 'Lok’s first sighter, sending a free-kick from the corner of the penalty area just beyond the junction of the post and crossbar.

Parity was restored in the 41st minute after Tam Hanlon’s free-kick cannoned off the bar. Paul Gallacher was the first to react, nodding down to his defensive partner Chris Walker who scissored home.

Gallacher prevented Pollok going behind again, being in the right place to deflect Adam Forsyth’s turn and shot in the box wide just after the interval.

The visitors nudged ahead in the 51st minute, Robbie Winters showing great vision to pick out the incoming run of McAleenan at the back post, the midfielder volleying low under Seasiders’ custodian Ally Semple.

Dale Keenan’s flick on sent Forsyth away in the area, the Troon man doing well to turn inside Gallacher, but Longmuir was on hand to block.

'Lok made their hosts rue this missed opportunity in the 62nd minute, Davie Winters laying into the path of Findlay Frye who rifled into the postage stamp corner from 25 yards.

Peter McGill twisted and turned inside the Pollok area, his final shot being clutched by Longmuir, while at the other end a Robbie Winters head flick set Allan MacKenzie bearing down on Semple, the ‘keeper blocking with his legs.

The final two efforts of the afternoon fell the way of the home side, Colin Spence’s free-kick was headed over by Dean Keenan, and at the death McGill’s outstretched leg could only divert a back post chance off target.
