Auchinleck Talbot 4-1 Pollok
West Premier Super League
Beechwood PARK, SATURDAY 14TH MAY 2016
Auchinleck Talbot took another step closer to winning the Superleague Premier Division with a home 4-1 victory over Pollok at Beechwood Park.
A frenetic opening ten minutes saw both sides have a brace of goalscoring opportunities apiece. Talbot were first up, Graham Wilson putting Keir Milliken through on goal, Jordan Longmuir able to kick the ball to safety.
A quick Davie Winters free-kick set Kevin Bradley through on ‘Bot custodian Andy Leishman, who was alert to make the block, then his goal had a narrow escape when Kieran McAleenan’s cross from deep was glanced wide by the head of Chris Walker.
A front-post cross for the home side was headed straight into Longmuir’s arms by Dwayne Hyslop, before the deadlock was broken in the 11th minute. Milliken received the ball from a throw-in, and was given time to turn in the area before unleashing past Longmuir low into the bottom corner.
A Gordon Pope daisy-cutter was the catalyst for a ‘Lok counter-attack, Davie Winters cutting back to Liam Rowan who saw his shot palmed wide, while a nice move involving Carlo Monti and Tam Hanlon set Bradley up, his finish, though, was weak.
Milliken cut inside Paul Gallacher to fire over before parity was restored in the 28th minute, Longmuir’s bye-kick bounced in behind the home rearguard where Davie Winters was on hand to sweep the ball home.
A Craig McCracken header wide of target from a Bryan Young free-kick was the last chance of note in the opening period.

Pollok had the first chance in the second half when Rowan dispossessed Steven Wilson and had a crack from 20 yards which drifted wide.
At the other end Walker failed to clear his lines allowing Graham Wilson time to turn and shoot over, ahead of Milliken finding himself bearing down on Longmuir who exhibited his athleticism to tip over.
Not to be outdone, Leishman showed of his skills when Davie Winters back-heeled into the path of Monti, his right-footer was guided past the post acrobatically by the Talbot number one.
The 67th minute brought about the turning point of the game, Walker was woefully short with a passback and home substitute Mark Shankland capitalised. His progress was halted by Longmuir with arbiter Graham Grainger sending the 'Lok goalie to the pavilion and awarding the homesters a penalty. Hanlon donned the gloves and, despite guessing correctly, was unable to keep Graham Wilson’s spot-kick out.
This double blow seemed to knock the stuffing out of the visitors as Talbot had the better of the closing minutes, Shankland teeing up Hyslop who shot straight at Hanlon.
It took until the 81st minute before the lead was doubled, a front-post header by Hyslop leaving Hanlon with no chance.
The advantage was increased further three minutes later, Pope rolling the ball to the feet of Young to turn and cross for Shankland to head across goal and past Hanlon.
It was Pope who had the last effort of the game, taking a shot from 20 yards which Hanlon gathered at the second attempt.
